Frequently Asked Questions
For a life-threatening emergency, call your local emergency hotline or go straight to the nearest emergency room. Do not wait for an appointment or a referral. Use this page to locate the closest hospital quickly.
Under Zero Balance Billing, PhilHealth members admitted to a basic ward at a government hospital should have no remaining balance for covered services. Charges can still arise for items outside the package, such as certain medicines or a private room. Ask the billing section early rather than at discharge.
A Malasakit Center is a one-stop desk inside a public hospital where DOH, PhilHealth, DSWD, and PCSO staff sit together to help reduce or settle your bill. Approach it as early in the stay as you can, not on discharge day. See our Malasakit Center guide for what to bring.
Emergency cases are seen without a referral. For outpatient consultations, many government hospitals prefer a referral from a health center or rural health unit, and some specialty clinics require one. Call the hospital's OPD to check its process and schedule.
Several programs exist beyond PhilHealth, including Malasakit Centers, DSWD medical assistance, PCSO, and your local government's aid office. Start with the Malasakit Center in the hospital. Our guide on what to do when you cannot pay a hospital bill walks through each option and its requirements.
Most are, but accreditation is per facility and can change, so check the hospital profile and confirm with the admitting section. Bring your PhilHealth number or MDR either way, as it is needed for any claim.
